Toxins, whether internal or external, affect ability to lose weight and achieve optimal weight balance.  Specifically, toxins can interfere with attempts to lose weight by impairing two major metabolic organs:  the liver and the thyroid.  Further, toxins damage our cell’s energy power plant, the mitochondria.

Toxins disrupt the weight control signals.  People with a higher BMI (body mass index) store more toxins because they have more fat cells.  Toxins such as pesticides and other industrial toxins (PCBs) lower thyroid hormone levels, interfere with their function, and as a result slow metabolic functioning (decrease optimal metabolism).

Toxins also inhibit fat burning and can damage the mechanisms by which hormonal signals control appetite and eating habits.  Leptin is the hormone that signals the brain that you are full.  Toxins block these signals.
